Graham Wilcox, Sixth Grade

I am truly grateful to be returning to Mendocino County after a three year absence. This is such a wonderful community to be a part of, and I feel proud to serve you as your new sixth grade teacher.
Growing up, my fondest memories were sitting at the dinner table listening to my grandparents talk about their experiences as educators in this area. My grandfather was the principal at Lower Lake High school way back in the 1930's, and my grandmother taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Middletown. My mother used to tell stories about growing up in Lake County with her two brothers, and every time I visit Lower Lake I immediately remember those stories she used to tell. It's like going back in time. Despite the fact that I did not grow up here, this area has always felt like home to me because of those stories.
I've always been the type of person that learns best by doing. I like to incorporate that style of learning in my classroom because I feel that students learn best when they experience their education through all of their senses. I like designing projects that require students to use all of the academic skills we study in class. We collaborate, we teach each other, we learn together, and we make sure no one gets left behind.
It is an honor to be your sixth grade teacher. I have a profound respect for the empowering capabilities of a good education, and it is my goal to provide all of you with the highest quality learning experience this year.
