Potter Valley Senior High's small-school setting provides a supportive learning environment where students can grow as individuals. Classes are small, frequently fewer than 20 students, giving each student a level of attention unusual in a high school. Our academic counselor is able to know every student personally.
Each week at Potter Valley High students have the chance to explore the world around them through rigorous academic programs in literature, scientific experimentation, mathematical problem solving, and social studies in a beautiful, quiet setting.
Students have the opportunity to stretch their imaginations and develop their creativity through art, woodshop, welding, agriculture, and photography. Our art program regularly exhibits student work in the community. Our campus includes a small farm to support our agricultural CTE pathway and our FFA program. Our Outdoor Education program supports student learning both inside and outside the classroom. Students ready for the next level can enroll in classes for dual credit towards HS graduation with opportunities both on campus at the college; the majority of students graduate Potter Valley High School with Mendocino College credit. . Currently, our freshman Computer Careers course is taught at PVHS for dual credit via a partnership with the college.
Our summer STEM Academy develops creative skills in science, engineering, and math, as well as field trips to visit colleges all over California. Classrooms and clubs take additional field trips during the year for cultural events, to learn about natural resources, to visit science exhibits, and to experience historic places. All classrooms have access to a full set of Chromebooks, so that students can access the most current research while completing classroom projects.

Students can strengthen their bodies in P.E. and in competitive athletics where everyone makes the team and has a chance to play. Most importantly, they have the chance to interact with teachers who truly desire to see them reach their full potential.
At Potter Valley, we understand that people are always more important than programs, and we work hard to provide a learning community where students and staff work together to reach their goals. Our students have access to rigorous academics, interesting electives, and competitive athletics for everyone's involvement. Teachers are available for individual afterschool help.
Seniors complete a self-directed Senior Project on a topic of their choice. Past projects have included shadowing a veterinarian, planting a community garden, building a jet engine, putting on an art show in a local gallery, and organizing a health fair. Community service is also emphasized.
Above all, Potter Valley Schools strive to be a place where students and adults can work together, play together, and grow together.
