Potter Valley High School: building strong academic and social foundations for every child.
  Yosemite Field Trip

Potter Valley Junior / Senior High's small-school setting provides a family rather than a factory approach to education.

Each week at Potter Valley Jr./ Sr. High our young people have the chance to explore the world around them through rigorous academic programs in literature, scientific experimentation, mathematical problem solving, and social studies.

Students have the opportunity to stretch their imaginations and develop their creativity through art, woodshop, music, drama, or computer courses.

They can strengthen their bodies in P.E. and through participation in competitive athletics where everyone makes the team and has a chance to play. But more than all this, they have the chance to interact with teachers who truly desire to see them reach their full potential.

At Potter Valley we understand that people are always more important than programs, and we work hard to provide a learning community where students and staff work together to reach their goals. Offering rigorous academics, interesting electives, and competitive athletics for everyone's involvement!

Above all, Potter Valley Schools strive to be a place where students and adults can work together, play together, and grow together.

From the Principal, Scott Paulin

General Douglas MacArthur once wrote, "Youth is not a period of time. It is a state of mind, a result of the will, a quality of the imagination, a victory of courage over timidity, of the taste for adventure over the love of comfort. A man doesn't grow old because he has lived a certain number of years. A man grows old when he deserts his ideal. The years may wrinkle his skin, but deserting his ideal wrinkles his soul."

Junior high and high school is the proving ground of the youthful soul. It is a time of transition, of testing, of sifting, and experimenting with what it is to be. It is a time when kids can spend all day trying to be grown up and cool, but still come home and just want to be a kid. It is a time when the young enjoy perceiving the old as out of our minds, while still quietly looking to us for the answers to the million questions lying deep inside. As we witness this adolescent rollercoaster ride we shouldn't be overly concerned that our kids don't seem to listen to a word we say. We should be more concerned that they watch everything we do. The best thing adults can do to help kids through this time is to lead by example. In the time we have with our children, we do best to lead by our actions.

Each week at Potter Valley Jr./Sr. High our students are guided in an exploration of the world around through literary analysis, scientific experimentation, mathematical problem-solving, and historical inquiry. They are provided an opportunity to develop skills and express their creativity through art, cabinetry, agriculture and computer courses. They can strengthen their bodies in P.E. and through participation in school athletics. But more than this, they have the chance to interact with a community of teachers and staff who truly desire to see them reach their full potential. Each day at Potter Valley, we encourage one another in hope our students will move closer to discovering their passions and ideals, so that when they have moved on from our care they will be men and women of courage and integrity, whose souls resist wrinkling.
