Communicating With
The School Board

HOW TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE BOARD:

The Potter Valley Community Unified School Board values communication from parents, staff, student, and community members as it helps to guide the work of the Board and Potter Valley Community Schools.

(A) For Parents and Community members wishing to contact the Board regarding a specific school, teacher or child, they are encouraged to begin at the level closest to their concern.  The Board encourages students and parents to discuss their concerns and complaints through informal conferences with the appropriate teacher, principal or other administrator.  The following steps are suggested:
STEP ONE: Contact the teacher, coach, guidance counselor, etc.

STEP TWO: Contact the principal.  If you have a school-wide concern, this becomes step                                         one.

STEP THREE: Contact the Superintendent via email or phone.

(B) Whenever a community member wants to give input to the Board on issues regarding the school district, he/she/they should communicate with the entire Board and the Superintendent in one of the following ways:

      1) E-MAIL a member(s) of the Board and/or the Superintendent at the following addresses:
          Karen Riordan , President (kriordan@pottervalleyschools.us)
          Erin Kile, Clerk  (ekile@pottervalleyschools.us)
          Elaine Lindelef, (elindelef@pottervalleyschools.us)
          Shannon Aiello (saiello@pottervalleyschools.us)
          John March (jmarch@pottervalleyschools.us)
          Damon Dickinson, Interim Superintendent (ddickinson@pottervalleyschools.us)

*Note: Board members cannot respond to other board members only to the individual that                   emailed due to the Brown Act.

      2) SEND a letter to the Superintendent, Damon Dickinson, at:
Potter Valley Community Unified School District
                 PO Box 219
                 Potter Valley, CA 95469

If the letter notes that the Board should receive a copy, the Superintendent’s office will be                  certain to distribute it to all Board members. If you send a letter to the Board, please also send a        copy of the letter to the Superintendent at the above address.

      3) Meet with the Superintendent, Damon Dickinson. You can arrange a meeting by emailing him            directly or by calling the District Office (707-743-2101).

      4)
ATTEND A BOARD MEETING and speak either during ‘Public Comment’ if the issue is not on            the agenda, or after the Board President asks for public input when the Board is reviewing a              particular agenda item. In the event a community member is unable to attend a Board                          meeting and wants to express an opinion on an agenda item, prior to the meeting they should            either send an e-mail or letter to the entire Board and Superintendent as noted above.
