PVHS Ag Teacher
Tom East is the Potter Valley Ag teacher. He attended high school in Atascadero CA. Then he attended Westhills JR. College, and Fresno state, then graduated from Cal Poly with his teaching credential. Before coming to Potter Valley Mr. East taught 5 years at Firebaugh High, then taught at Covelo High School for 16 years. He also worked at a boys group home in Covelo as an administer, and now teaches at Potter Valley High School as the Ag teacher and FFA adviser. He teaches Intro to Ag, Intro to Ag Mechanics, Farm Mechanics, AG Leadership Skills, and Landscaping. Mr. East enjoys the students, and the support that administration has for Ag.
Potter Valley High School has a Career Pathway program in agriculture. Students have the opportunity to learn all facets of agriculture and ag-related mechanics including plant cultivation, animal husbandry, landscaping, woodworking, and welding. The school has a small farm and students have plenty of hands-on opportunities to develop practical skills alongside academic learning. Potter Valley FFA regularly exhibits at the Redwood Empire Fair and the Mendocino County Fair, along with providing service to the school and the community.
